Superior Hiking Trail

The Superior Hiking Trail is a true gem. I through-hiked it solo in 2005 – 205 miles in 16 days from near Canada to Two Harbors. Since 2007, my eldest daughter and I have been hiking it in segments on almost annual trips, and have made it from the Canadian end to Gooseberry Falls so far. It has been a source of peace and joy in our lives.

It is an incredible resource – amazing views of Lake Superior, challenging terrain, gorgeous flora and fauna. And to imagine that it is all free – thanks to the generosity of donors, landowners, and grants, and many volunteers that maintain the trail and campsites and run the organization.

My favorite section is from Baptism High Falls in Tettegouche State Park to the Beaver River. The Devil Track River Canyon, Pincushion Mountain, and Carlton Peak are also great highlights.
