Battle Creek Regional Park, located in St. Paul and Maplewood, provides a 750 acre retreat to city dwellers. The uses for the park are numerous, from unpaved hiking and biking trails to playgrounds, a water park and dog park. The mountain biking trails are managed through a partnership between the Ramsey County Park and Recreation Department and the Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists and vary from steep narrow trails to wide flatter trails. Users of the park may encounter wild turkeys, white tail deer and many native plant species while enjoying the various ecosystems from forest to restored prairieland.
Families will find many fun activities throughout Battle Creek Regional Park. East of McKnight Road on the North side of Upper Afton Road users may enjoy a water park, rentable pavilion and large playground area, all surrounded by paved multi-use trails and running water. Cross Upper Afton to the south and furry family members can run free in a 35 acre off leash dog park located between Upper and Lower Afton Roads. The Battle Creek Recreation Center run by the city of St. Paul also provides value to the area through the children’s programs, and community education programs offered year round. Lastly, the young, or those young at heart will want to know the hill adjacent to the Center, located at 75 Winthrop St. South, is lit in the winter for long hours of sledding fun. Cross-country ski trails are also lit during the winter months.
Battle Creek Regional Park has received Legacy funding for trail construction and habitat restoration.
