My favorite getaway place is Whitefish Lake, situated about three hours north of the Twin Cities near the towns of Crosslake and Pequot Lakes. Whitefish Lake (split into Upper and Lower) anchors a large chain of lakes that never disappoints, no matter what time of year. Summertime offers a setting for all your favorite warm weather activities, including a fantastic locale for sailing and fishing, and the winter months attract many for snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing. The chain is a popular spot for cabins, but not overcrowded, and is even the home of multiple summer camps. But it’s not necessary to get your own place on the chain–there are plenty of places to stay in the area from larger resorts to picturesque inns. Offering the quintessential lake experience and within driving distance of other great Minnesota sights, Whitefish Lake is a great spot for vacationers from around the state to get their “up north” R and R.
Nearby activities also include: ATV and bike trails, golfing, horseback riding, and hunting.
