Big Woods State Park is amazing all year round, but it is by far my favorite in the Fall. The leaves turn amazing shades of reds, oranges, browns and yellows and the hiking paths afford for many places to crunch them underfoot. There are several hikes around the park, one which takes you to Hidden Falls, a gem, and a short walk from the campground. There is geo-caching and a picnic and playground area great for the kids.
My friends and I like to go every fall on the weekend where a local church hosts a running event – 5k, 10k and half marathon. We run in the morning, hike in the afternoon, and leave plenty of time for a visit to the local meat market and apple orchard. It is one of my favorite weekends of the year.
