While the crowds head to the North Shore and the BWCAW, Highway 38 between Grand Rapids and Effie Minnesota offers something for all seasons. Largely undeveloped lakes inside the Chippewa National Forest offer fishing opportunities for an astonishing variety of game fish, and many of them are accessible only by canoe. Bike, paddle, camp, swim and fish all spring and summer long. Come fall this area offers some of the best grouse hunting in the state, and winter offers snowshoeing and fantastic ice fishing.
