Pipestone National Monument marks the place sacred to Native Americans where members of multiple tribes quarried (and still quarry) red stone for ceremonial or ornamental pipes. Used for as long as 3,000 years, the site is said to have been important enough to tribes that enemies put aside their differences and mined side-by-side. A small but picturesque creek runs through the monument, featuring a waterfall.
